Of course, the brand started with clothes and eventually expanded into furniture, which was great news for anyone who likes simple furniture that is eye-catching in all the right ways. Take, for instance, the Palma coffee table, whose unique shape makes it an instant statement piece.

Few brands have created more instantly recognizable pieces than MacKenzie-Childs, founded in 1983 by a husband and wife about four hours outside Manhattan. Now, the store, filled with its iconic patterns and motifs, is on Broadway in the Soho neighborhood. For spring 2023, we're shopping the enamel tea kettle, decorated in pink polka dots and layered with clusters of daisies.

Williams Sonoma, which is headquartered in San Francisco, is another heritage brand that never disappoints—perhaps because it sells everything you could ever need for your home. Design Within Reach is like West Elm in that it has a massive inventory of furniture and accessories that recall the midcentury modern period, but the pieces at DWR are the real deal. Each piece was designed by a furniture maker or industrialist from post-war times. This office chair was first designed by husband and wife Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller back in 1958. Luckily, the duo's original design is still in production.
