The 14 Best Wireless Bras, According to Our Rigorous Long-Term Testing (2024)

What Stands Out

  • The fuller coverage provides good support for small and large busts.

What Could Be Improved

  • The size range is not expansive.

The Wacoal Comfort First Wire Free T-Shirt Bra is a supportive and easily adjustable bra that doesn't sacrifice comfort. Each bra features thin memory foam cups that contour the breast, as well as provide coverage and shape under everything from thin shirts to white T's. During testing, we found that this bra remained comfortable and provided great coverage, whether we were lounging at home or traveling on a 16-hour flight from New York to Abu Dhabi.

The design features a hook eye back closure and a band that stretches and recovers easily, allowing for hours of pinch- and ride-up-free wear. We were also surprised by the level of support it provides, even for those with larger busts. This is due in part to the amount of coverage, which was comfortable for both larger and smaller busts. Plus, the material felt silky and stretchy, but did not stretch out after wearing or washing, which proved that it’s durable as well as supportive. On that note though, we were disappointed that it only goes up to a 38DD and doesn’t have a lot of color options.

What Stands Out

  • The straps easily adjust in the front.

What Could Be Improved

  • It’s not suitable for larger busts.

A go-to wireless bra that won't break the bank is what you'll get with the Simply Perfect by Warner's Super Soft Wirefree Bra. The design features front-adjusting straps that make achieving the perfect fit a breeze, as well as a supportive undercarriage and thicker straps that gently lift and shape.

Indeed, we found that this bra had a comfort level similar to that of a bralette, with a barely-there feel so good that we almost forgot we were wearing a bra. It is also easy to wash, and didn’t stretch out or pill during the testing period. Unfortunately though, it only goes up to a 38D or 40C, so those with larger busts will need to look elsewhere.

Knix WingWoman Contour Bra

The 14 Best Wireless Bras, According to Our Rigorous Long-Term Testing (5)

What Stands Out

  • It's available in a range of colors and sizes (from A to H cup) and is made with extra side coverage.

What Could Be Improved

  • It offers a lot of coverage, which might not provide a "barely there" feel.

This highly rated bra from Knix is everything you’d want in a wireless bra. It’s supportive, compatible with clothing of varying necklines, and comes in a wide variety of sizes and colors. The Knix WingWoman Contour Bra is made of nylon, polyester, and spandex, all of which are considered to be strong, durable fabrics. These, in combination with the bra’s molded cups and wide side straps, will keep your breasts secure as you go about your day.

This bra provides medium coverage but features a plunging neckline that makes it compatible with V-neck shirts and dresses. Another great feature about this bra is the incredible amount of cup size options available. Band sizes start at 28 while the cup size goes as far as H. We did, however, find that this bra was a bit off when it came to fit, and we had to exchange it for a different size to get a good fit (even after taking the brand’s size quiz. Like the sizes, there are multiple color options to choose from, ranging from skin tones to fun patterns.

Size Range: 0-8++ (28A-42H) | Materials: Nylon, polyester, spandex | Return Policy: 30 days

The 14 Best Wireless Bras, According to Our Rigorous Long-Term Testing (6)

What Stands Out

  • It has a 4-hook closure in the back for extra support.

What Could Be Improved

  • It has extra support and padding that make it not ideal for everyday lounging.

The Aerie Sunnie Wireless Push-Up Bra checks off several boxes that evade other wireless bras. For starters, the design features a wide band that helps keep it secure throughout the day, even with more rigorous movement. The two eye hooks reinforce the stability of the bra and mimic that of its more traditional counterparts—and we can confirm that it provided more support than we anticipated. In fact, we found that this bra provides better support than most bras period, including wired bras.

Plus, the thin straps and plunging shape were surprisingly comfortable. This bra lifted without digging into the shoulders, and did not result in any cleavage spillage. It was also easy to wear with a variety of tops, since the straps were easy to hide. The design also includes additional padding that provides extra support and life, plus prevents nipples from showing. If you have a larger bust, just take note that the one con we noticed was that the brand tended to flip up a bit in the front.

Size Range: 30A-38DD/40D | Material: Recycled nylon, spandex | Return Policy: No time limit

What Stands Out

  • It offers full coverage support up to size 44H.

What Could Be Improved

  • It's only available in four colors.

The Soma Embraceable Full Coverage Wireless Unlined Bra is the perfect choice for those with larger breasts looking for comfortable support. In fact, we found that this bra was able to lift and support breasts prone to hanging low thanks to the undersling feature included in the design. It’s also quite durable, and it didn’t stretch out or lose its shape.

The design also includes a full coverage effect from the front to the back of the bra. Since larger breasts are heavier and can cause tension in upper back muscles, the leotard back is a great feature for all-day comfort. Truly, this is one of the most comfortable bras for large busts we’ve ever worn, and it provides good shaping so you can wear it with every type of outfit. This same full coverage extends to the straps to ensure the bra won’t dig into the shoulders. The only con to this bra is the lack of color options—currently, there are only four.

Size Range: 34C-44H | Materials: Nylon, spandex | Return Policy: 30 days

The 14 Best Wireless Bras, According to Our Rigorous Long-Term Testing (11)

What Stands Out

  • It provides a little lift for smaller busts, and has removable cups.

What Could Be Improved

  • Sizes start at 30A/32AA, which might not be small enough for very petite people.

This bra is specifically designed for those with smaller breasts, as it only comes in AA through B cup sizes. The Pepper Limitless Wirefree Scoop Bra provides solid, no-gap coverage while still looking super cute, so much so that you can style it semi-exposed with the right T-shirt and top.

Support is achieved by the double-hook enclosure in the back, the adjustable straps, and the elastane, which accounts for more than 20% of the bra’s material. But don’t worry about feeling like you’ve been sucked in—it’s also made of nylon, providing a soft cushion for your bust and back. And should you want less padding, you’ll be glad to know that it comes with removable cups. When we tested this bra, we found that the pads weren’t noticeable when in use, making it a perfect hybrid-styled design.

The color options for this bra are a standout. You can choose between single colors, ranging from black to periwinkle, to limited edition two-tone options including brown and pink and light blue and dark blue. Plus, if you’re someone who is trying to shop more sustainably, know that this brand participates in ethical manufacturing practices, reuses water used during dying, and packs their products in biodegradable and recyclable packaging.

Size Range: XXS-XL (30A-38B) | Materials: Polyamide, elastane | Return Policy: 30 days

The 14 Best Wireless Bras, According to Our Rigorous Long-Term Testing (13)

What Stands Out

  • This seamless scoop neck bra comes in 12 skin tones, as well as more colorful limited edition hues.

What Could Be Improved

  • It doesn't have a hook closure, so it's more of a bralette.

One of the biggest problems with not just bras, but undergarments in general, is that there isn’t a wide enough selection of skin tones available. Skims does things differently. The brand’s Fit Everybody Scoop Neck Bra comes in nine skin tones, as well as a wide range of seasonal colors. The bralette, which is made of polyamide and elastane, is quite stretchy, and thus, able to accommodate a multitude of bust sizes. Plus it has adjustable straps for added comfort.

This bra is suitable for wearing around the house and looks enough like a sports bra that you can wear it as a top when paired with the right clothing, like high-waisted leggings or a hoodie. Plus, the neckline is so low that you can wear scoop necks and low-back tops without this bra showing.

It also comes in a diverse range of sizes, with the largest size available being a 4X, which can accommodate people who measure 44D-H. It’s worth noting that we found that the larger sizes felt slightly tight on those with larger breasts. Minor cleavage spillage from the top was able to be adjusted, but sizing up might benefit those with larger busts. And, if you’d prefer to get this bra in a color other than your skin tone, know there are other options including gold, silver, and more.

Size Range: XXS-4X (30A-44H) | Materials: Polyamide, elastane | Return Policy: 30 days

The 14 Best Wireless Bras, According to Our Rigorous Long-Term Testing (15)

What Stands Out

  • It has a sexy aesthetic without sacrificing support.

What Could Be Improved

  • It's not sheer, which might be a con for some people searching for lace bras.

A bra that’s lacy, lined, and wire-free is practically unheard of—but the Maidenform Pure Comfort Soft Support Lace Bralette offers all that and more. Color options vary from standard black and beige to fun and bright coral and lilac, so you have plenty of options no matter what style you’re going for. Plus, the plunge front adds another sexy touch to complete the look.

This bra is still supportive though, thanks to the slightly extended frame and soft cups. While the straps are adjustable, we had some issues—some of us wished that the straps were shorter, while others felt that the sizing was off and that the band wasn’t tight enough. Still, this bra is convertible, so you can wear it with a variety of outfits. However, we found that opting for a more supportive bra for special occasions is best. This bra, while offering a comfortable and true-to-size fit, leaves little to be desired in the lifting department—particularly for those with larger busts.

Size Range: S-2XL (34A-40DD) | Materials: Nylon, spandex | Return Policy: 45 days (via the manufacturer)

What Stands Out

  • It's extra comfortable, as well as flexible and durable.

What Could Be Improved

  • It's prone to stretching out after wear (but bounces back after washing).

Seamless bras are ideal for those who don’t want the outlines of their bras to be as visible through their clothing. The True & Co. Soft Form V Neck Adjustable Strap Bra is as smooth as can be thanks to its nylon material and lack of hook closure. But don’t worry, you’ll still get support. The wide straps, the mid-coverage design, and the knitted areas along the underside of the cup area will give you the support and comfort you need.

We were surprised at how supportive this bra is, especially for those with larger busts. Still, it’s not suitable for active days, and is best for hanging out at home or doing light activities. We did notice that it stretched out a bit after a few days of wear, which isn’t atypical for seamless bras, but that went away after washing.

What Stands Out

  • It provides a good deal of compression for those with larger busts, without sacrificing comfort.

What Could Be Improved

  • It's best for lounging.

Given their weight, larger breasts can cause a lot of back and chest pain. They can also make it difficult to buy clothes that fit comfortably around the chest area. That's where a minimizing bra, like this option from Chantelle, comes into play.

The C Magnifique Wirefree Bra offers thick and adjustable straps to help take some of the added weight and pressure off the chest and evenly distribute it onto the shoulders. It also has breathable and wireless cups to maximize support and comfort as they gently compress the breasts for a minimized appearance. In fact, we were amazed at how comfortable, supportive, and easily adjustable this style was—sometimes we forgot we were wearing anything at all. With its light lining and thicker rib cage straps, we heartily recommend this bra to those with larger busts, and think it’s well worth the price.

What Stands Out

  • The cups are removable, so you can get as much lift as you want.

What Could Be Improved

  • It has a lot of side support, which might be hard to get used to.

If you want extra oomph but don’t want to commit to a push-up bra, go with a balconette bra like this option from Honeylove. Removable cups offer the convenience of being able to customize your bra fit when needed. You can keep the cups in on days when you need a little more shape, and take them out when you’re feeling more casual. You can also simply use them to give yourself a little lift when needed.

Plus, the pads contain a thicker apex, so you don’t have to worry about the extra padding making your breasts look unnatural. What’s tricky, though, is sizing. We found that the cup sizing, despite the adjustability, wasn’t quite right. Selecting our typical sizes, we found that the cups were slightly large, and downsizing meant a tighter band in exchange for cups that fit.

The Honeylove CrossOver Bra contains spandex, has a thick 4-hook closure, and is medium coverage, providing an impressive level of support for the wearer. Its design is also quite distinct with the mesh detail, offering a sultry look for a bra that is designed for comfort. Another standout is the range of size options, with band sizes starting at 30 and going up to 56.

What Stands Out

  • It has a front hook enclosure that makes the bra less visible through clothing.

What Could Be Improved

  • It's only available in two colors and three cup sizes.

Everyone’s favorite shapewear brand also created this wireless bra that is both supportive and ridiculously comfortable. This comfort comes from a variety of factors, including the Smart Straps, which manage to be loose enough to rest comfortably on the shoulders while also taut enough to stay on throughout the day. The back of the bra is also made of hosiery material, providing a nice level of softness for your back that you wouldn’t get with a hook enclosure. This material also makes the back of the bra less visible through your clothes.

The front close is small yet sturdy, able to hold your breasts up as they rest against the lined, foam cups located in the bust. One major downside to this bra is lack of color options, which may be a turn off for people who want a bra that is a close match to their skin tone, as well as the lack of sizes.

Size Range: 30C-38DD | Material: Nylon, elastane | Return Policy: 90 days (from the manufacturer)

What Stands Out

  • It comes with multiple strap options.

What Could Be Improved

  • The smaller sizes don't come with a silicone band at the bottom.

Finding a strapless bra that stays up and is comfortable enough to wear for hours is no easy feat. The Soma Enbliss Multiway Stay-Put Wireless Strapless Bra accomplishes just that, promising a level of comfort so significant that you might just forget you’re wearing it. This comfort can be attributed to the padded hook-and-eye enclosure and soft nylon and spandex fabric. It’s the spandex, as well as the full-coverage cup style, that will keep your breasts feeling supported throughout the day.

This Enbliss model also comes with straps should you want to convert it into a traditional bra. You can wear the straps four ways, including traditional, halter, criss-cross, and one-shoulder, the latter of which would be perfect for one-shoulder dresses and tops. The bra comes in two colors (black and warm amber) and standard cup and band sizes, ranging from a 32A to 40DD.

Size Range: 32A-42G | Materials: Nylon, spandex | Return Policy: 60 days

What Stands Out

  • This bralette offers adjustable straps and a 4-hook closure.

What Could Be Improved

  • It isn't supportive enough for exercise.

While bralettes offer more flexibility than typical bras, they don't always provide enough support. That's why Aerie's "bra-ish" bralette strikes the perfect balance between the two, providing both the support of a bra and the comfort of a bralette. It's also recommended by executive editor Lisa Freedman: "I can't go for a run in this bralette, but it's great for running errands or bumming around the house. I live in it all weekend and sometimes I even forget I have anything on!"

This padded bralette comes in 11 colors, including several neutral skin tones and more vibrant hues. Crafted from a blend of nylon and spandex, the material is stretchy and smooth on the skin. Unlike traditional bralettes that go over the head, this one features adjustable straps and 4-row clasp closure. It also comes in a wide range of sizes (from XXS-XXL) with floating cups designed to accommodate size fluctuations.

Final Verdict

Overall, we recommend the Wacoal Comfort First Wire Free T-Shirt Bra for its versatility, adjustability, and support. We were shocked at how supportive this bra was for both small and large busts, and were impressed with how comfortable it was for extended periods of time. If you're seeking a more affordable option, we love the Simply Perfect by Warner's Super Soft Wirefree Bra, which has a lightweight, barely-there feel and adjustable straps,

Our Testing Process

We tested over 20 popular wireless bras over a span of at least two weeks, wearing each bra for a minimum of four hours per day. The bra also had to be washed at least once during the trial period.

We focused on a few main qualities and ranked them on a scale of one through five. The attributes we looked for in these wireless bras were fit, support, comfort, adjustability, and quality. For the fit, we considered how each wireless bra's coverage compared to a wired bra, paying attention to the fit and versatility.

To evaluate support, we paid attention to the bra straps, lining or padding, and closure style. We also considered whether the bra worked best for smaller or larger busts. Product materials, strap placement, ease of movement, and the like can make any bra easy or difficult to wear, so we considered those as well.

And, since a good quality bra can get expensive, we considered the overall durability and quality of each bra. We washed each bra at least once following manufacturers’ instructions, and paid attention to any stretching, pilling, or snagging that occurred. Once the testing period was complete, we rated each bra on its overall value. We used all of these testing criteria to come up with the best wireless bras for a range of sizes and styles.

How to Shop for Wireless Bras Like a Pro

Material

Wireless bras tend to come in the following materials: nylon, spandex, elastane, cotton, and polyamide. Nylon and polyamide are similar, as are spandex and elastane. A combination of nylon and spandex or polyamide and elastane are a force in both comfort and, especially, support. Cotton is better for people who tend to sweat easily in their bust area, as cotton is a more breathable fabric that will soak up moisture better than synthetic materials like nylon. Cotton is also technically a softer fabric, although nylon and polyamide aren't rough materials either. Another benefit of cotton is that it is more likely to be machine-washable.

Support

People who are new to wearing wireless bras may be surprised to find that they can provide just as much support as those with wires in them. "The construction of a wireless bra can be virtually identical to an underwire bra, with the exception being that it does not contain the channel that holds the piece of wire underneath your breast tissue," says Freno.

Like wired bras, she says the bulk of the support from wireless bras comes from the band. "You always want to feel confident that the band on your bra (underwire or no underwire!) fits snugly and sits right at the bottom of your breast atop your ribcage," she says. The biggest mistake she sees that women make when buying wireless bras is getting ones that have too big a band size.

"When the band is too large, not only will it not offer the support you need, but it will ride up and have you fiddling with it all day trying to pull it down, which will make your straps slide off your shoulders, your breasts sag, and mainly just won't give you the perfect fit you deserve." She finds band size to be akin to shopping for a pair of shoes: "If you measure an 8, would you be comfortable walking around in a pair of size 10 shoes? No way!" The best way to figure out your band size is by taking your measurements.

In addition to the band size, there are other features you can look out for that will provide additional support. These wide straps and wide bands, molded cups, and adjustable straps. The kind of support that works best for you is really dependent on your breast size, your regular level of activity, and your personal comfort. Take some time to shop around for the best wireless bra that works for you.

Return Policy

When a brand has an accommodating and expansive return policy, it signifies that it's confident in the quality and integrity of its product. Given the intimate nature of bras, having the opportunity to try the item on and see if it's comfortable can be the difference between having a new undergarment staple or wasting your money. If the brand's policy is strict and offers a marginal return window, you risk owning a bra that might not provide enough support and coverage or is the wrong size.

With this in mind, look for brands that start with at least a 30-day return window. If you know that a brand is available at several different retailers, it is worth comparing the return policies for each store before making a purchase.

Hanes SmoothTec Wireless Bra with Scoopback: This unlined bra is a great budget option if you’re looking for a bra specifically for lounging. It’s very comfortable and lightweight, akin to a sports bra, and it comes in a range of sizes.

Truekind Everyday Comfort Straps Wireless Shaping Bra: This is another solid lounging bra that’s best for people who aren’t looking for a bra that shapes and contours. While it has a good size range, we think it’s best for smaller busts.

Questions You Might Ask

What are the benefits of wearing a wireless bra?

Hackett says there are many benefits to wearing a wireless bra, one being flexibility of sizing. “A wired bra can be perfectly comfortable as well, but if you fluctuate in size for reasons like weight change, menstruation, or pregnancy, an underwire might cause discomfort,” she explains.

Along with size fluctuation, Hackett notes that wireless bras can also provide extra comfort, especially while sleeping. Since the underwire could get uncomfortable to lay on, she says many people prefer a wire-free bra if they are working from home or wearing loungewear, as it’s usually less structured.

Are wireless bras supportive?

While Hacket says that wireless bras are supportive, she says determining whether or not they are supportive enough for an individual depends on several factors. Since most of the bra’s support comes from the band, she says it’s important to make sure your band is snug enough.

“Because of the lack of wire, a wireless bra may be supportive, but it might not provide the level of separation between your breasts that you prefer, especially if you have a larger cup size,” Hackett explains. “The larger your cup size, the more likely it will be that you prefer an underwire bra.”

How do I figure out my bra size?

Freno recommends that before you even start shopping for a wireless bra, make sure you have the most up-to-date measurements to ensure accurate sizing. "Once you are confident that your band measurement and bust measurement are accurate, you can select a wireless bra that will contain your breast tissue fully and support the weight of your breasts—even without an underwire," she says.

Luckily, figuring out your bra size is pretty easy. All you need is a tape measure. First, measure your band size by placing the measuring tape around your torso, right where your bra band usually sits. Make sure that the tape is level and snug. Take that number and round it to the nearest whole. If the number is even, add four inches. If it's odd, add five. After that, measure your bust by placing the tape around your breasts, right where your nipples are. Take that number and round it to the nearest whole. Take the band calculation, subtract it from the bust measurement, and that difference will determine your cup size. A one-inch difference is an A cup, two inches is a B cup, and so on.

However, know that the bra size from one retailer may differ from another, so keep those measurements on hand and look at a brand's size chart to determine the most accurate fit. “You may not wear the same size in every brand, and shape and style are also important factors in what fits best,” Hackett says. “Usually your local bra boutique will have a fitter who can help you find options like a personal shopper would, and a myriad of options for you to try on, which makes the process easier than having to order online and return items that don’t fit.” If your regular size doesn't fit quite right, we recommend going down a size for cups and up a band size, and vice versa.

How do you wash a wireless bra?

Always check the manufacturer's instructions before washing your bras, but generally, hand washing is best. Although inconvenient, remember that a bra, even if it's wireless, is a delicate garment. Having that delicate garment get tossed around among a bunch of other clothes in the washing machine and dryer is bound to make it wear down faster and lose its shape over time.

"The hook and eye closures, even on a wireless bra, will always take a beating in the washing machine, not to mention that any elastic will stretch more easily, and the fibers in the fabric of the bra itself will not last as long if laundered in the washing machine," Freno says.

Even if your bra is machine-washable, Freno recommends putting it in a lingerie wash bag and washing it on a delicate cycle to help lessen the impact of the tumultuous environments of the washing machine and dryer. Hackett similarly stresses the importance of using a lingerie bag to prevent snags, adding that you should never put bras in the dryer.

How long do wireless bras last?

According to Freno, it depends. "How long a bra will last is based solely on how frequently it is worn and how carefully it is laundered," she says. "If you have ten bras in your rotation and only wear your bra on average once a week, it's surely going to last a lot longer than if you only own one bra and wear it to death every single day."

Bras usually last about six months, and that is even when you care for them properly and have a large amount of them in rotation. Signs that a bra needs to be replaced include when the back is stretched out, the cups start to feel too big or too small (this can happen due to weight loss or weight gain), the straps become loose, or the color of the bra has faded.

The biggest sign that you should replace your bra immediately is when you see what appears to be small hairs poking out of the bra. Those hairs are the elastic, and when elastic pokes out, it means that it has broken down. Since elastic makes up most of the bra's ability to support your breasts, having it broken down means that soon it won't be able to provide you support, making it a useless undergarment.

Freno has found, however, that wireless bras tend to last longer than wired bras. "Wireless bras don't seem to wear out quite as quickly because the most common issue that impacts the longevity of underwire bras is the lifespan of the underwire itself."
